Welcome to my campaign website.  My name is Mark Ames.  I'm campaigning to be the representative for District 8A to the Minnesota Legislature.  As I am challenging the incumbent Rep.  Bill Hilty for this position, I hope this website will serve to highlight the differences between us.

My opponent's voting record over the past decade indicates a set of priorities out of sync with those of this district.  I also have serious concerns about the financial health of our state.  I want to more accurately represent the interests of the residents of Pine and Carlton counties.  As the year-long economic crisis drags on, Minnesota cannot afford to continue to spend as if we were in an economic boom.  Borrowing billions of dollars to finance non-critical projects will leave us at risk of losing the flexibility we need to cope with downturns and will threaten the safety net that so many are depending on these days.
